Committee of 100 YP
In October 2006, the Committee of 100 formed a new organization for young professionals under 35 to receive training and mentoring as future political leaders. The 50 members of Committee of 100 YP have monthly programs on economic development and public education topics. They also are invited to attend quarterly meetings with the full membership, task force meetings, and lunch meetings with local elected leaders.
YP members also receive training in running a political campaign and being an effective board member. They attend city council, school board and county commission meetings and are mentored by individual members of the Committee of 100.
Committee of 100 YP members sponsored Rock the Vote ’10 on April 15, 2010, 6 until 9 p.m., at the Historic Depot Roundhouse for all local young professionals and candidates for local and state offices. Their Rock the Vote ’08 event attracted more than 350 young professionals and 50 candidates. They also co-sponsored with WHNT-TV19 the Huntsville/Madison Mayoral Debate in 2008 televised live with a special event at Monaco Pictures.
